Alliance Française's Congolese Christmas Dinner

What’s the best way to start the month of celebration but with a get around to discover a culture and a country. We’ll celebrate one of the most important francophone community in Port Elizabeth by honouring the Republic Democratic of Congo!

You'll discover and enjoy the traditional dishes that our Congolese cooker will prepare for you. She’s sourcing her ingredients from the Congolese market in Johannesburg for maximum freshness and authenticity. You’ll discover the Fumbua, pondu, musaka, mayebo, mbinzo, kuanga, fufu, mbisi and more!

Don’t be afraid by the names it’s just fish and chicken with some vegetables !

You’ll be entertained by the talented local band Ikati Esengxoweni who will spice up their beats for the occasion with some Congolese rhythms. The band is doing a fund raising to help them get to the USA for a music tour next year.

Also some Congolese music will be played and dance floor for those who’d like to get a bit festive and in the mood for the Holidays celebrations will be at your disposal.

David, our Congolese French teacher at the Alliance will indulge us with a rumba dance demonstration and will teach us how to achieve the perfect rumba dance movements. Congolese Rumba also known as Rumba Lingala, is a popular genre of dance music that originated in the Congo basin during the 1940s, with strong similarities to Cuban songs.
