Nelson Mandela Bay’s famous narrow-gauge steam train, the Apple Express, regularly travels between Port Elizabeth departing from the Humewood Road Station and Loerie Station, approximately 72 km from Port Elizabeth. Along the line is the Van Staden’s Bridge, the highest narrow-gauge railway bridge in the world, where passengers may either disembark and stroll across the structure, or cross the bridge on board the train - both options offer wonderful photographic opportunities. Refreshments, such as cool drinks, chips and sweets, as well as memorabilia are available for sale onboard. The Apple Express stops at its final destination, Loerie Station, for about two hours before returning to Port Elizabeth. At Loerie Station passengers can have a pre-booked two-course meal or make use of the facilities to enjoy a self-packed picnic lunch or braai.
