2010 HOST CITY THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION The 2010 FIFA World Cup was extremely successful and tremendeously enhanced our country’s international reputation, economic status, infrastructure and social upliftment. The ten host cities did a splendid job with the logistical organisation and are very close to achiving first world status. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality had an incident-free hosting and the metro ran like a well-oilled machine during the soccer bonanza. To acknowledge the success of the World Cup in our city, a group of individuals from the metro is organizing a 2010 Host City Thanksgiving Celebration on 01 August 2010 at the newly revamped Gelvandale Stadium and is supported by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. The event will mainly be on thanking our God as he is the almighty and the one who blessed us with his mercy and through his divine intervention we never experienced any problems in our city. The event promise excitement and responsible fun while offering extensive social uplifting and motivation to both the municipal administration and the public as this was a joint venture and everyone contributed directly or indirectly. Leaders from our local religious and spiritual organizations have been invited to head the event and lead us in prayer as we will be doing only what is due to the powers from above. All the residents of our city are invited across diverse racial and religious backgrounds. Religious performers have also been identified to render devotion & musical items and they include spiritual dancers, bands and gospel singers. Patrick Duncan (from Joyous Celebration gospel group) who is a national gospel icon has also been brought into the fold to worships and share the sentiment with our city. We have also invited various local, provincial and national icons to join us on such a prestigious event and they range from our Honorable State President, Mr. Jacob Zuma, The Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, Honorable Noxolo Kiviet, Honorable Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Honorable Danny Jordan, FIFA Local Organizing Committee, ACSA, Emergency Medical Services, Disaster Management and many more affiliates. We urge everyone in the municipality to be part of this special occasion marked on the community calendar of history. We as a nation can stand tall and united in the quest of real thanksgiving to the Almighty God.
