Uptown Theatres presents internationally acclaimed, South African born singer-songwriter and SAMA Award winner, Farryl Purkiss, also known as South Africa’s own version of “Jack Johnson” this Saturday evening in the Chaplin Cocktail Theatre. Farryl Purkiss is no stranger to Uptown, having performed at the popular theatre three times in the last year and a half. This year has been exciting for Purkiss with highlights including his South African Music Award win for his new album, “Fruitbats and Crows.” The album is the long awaited follow up to his 2006 internationally critically acclaimed self titled album for which he was nominated for a SAMA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album. Also this year, his second single, Kissing Devils on the Cheek, from his latest album, Fruitbats and Crows, has enjoyed widespread acclaim from fans, media and radio alike with play listing on national station, 5fm, as well as its video peaking at number two on MK. Purkiss has also recently cracked the nod from Hollywood, with his song, Sticks and Stones being chosen to feature on a popular American TV series, Private Practice. The song is a track from his eponymous debut album. He is also the man behind the hit, "La Di Da" which was featured on MTN TV ad and has charted radio stations around the world, reaching #1 in France, a headlining act for Woodstock 2007, a world touring, successful South African artist we're proud to present to Port Elizabeth fans once again!
