Luyolo Lenga – Public Lecture - African Bow Music Consciousness
This lecture aims to provide an insight into African indigenous music, particularly bow music and instruments unique to the Southern African region. This lecture will focus on various musical bows, including the Uhadi calabash bow, Makhweyana calabash bow, Chitende calabash bow, Chipendane Okamburumbumbwa calabash bow, Mrhubhe mouth bow, and Kaworongongo mouth bow. Each of these bows has a unique origin and plays a significant role in the music of its respective country.
The lecture will delve into these instruments' cultural and spiritual significance and how they are used in various African communities. Bow music is an essential part of African culture, and many of these bows are steeped in centuries of tradition and history. They have been used for various purposes, including entertainment, spiritual ceremonies, and communication tools between communities.
The lecture will conclude with a performance by Mr Luyolo Lenga, who will use some of the bows to showcase African indigenous music's unique sounds and rhythms.
