As of Wednesday 7th March South Africa has lost over 100 rhino to the hands of poachers; at this rate we are set to lose over 500 rhino in 2012. This only serves to confirm that every effort is needed to curb the slaughter of our rhino and that this campaign is as necessary, if not more than it was in 2011. From small beginnings in 2011...to a R10million fundraising goal for 2012. We're pulling out all the stops, getting anyone and everyone involved - all in the name of SA's rhinos. The (brief) plan: We're asking at least 448 people (one for every rhino killed in SA in 2011) to raise a minimum of R5000 to tandem skydive at one of five drop-zones in SA betwwen July and September 2012. Port Elizabeth: 31st Aug - 2nd Sept We're also getting celebrities on board each with a fundraising goal of R100 000 - see below for more... Want to know what to expect? Watch our 2011 Youtube video Where will the funds go? 100% funds raised from this campaign will go directly to rhino anti-poaching and conservation initiatives in South Africa. We have identified four tangible areas of need that the funds will be channelled to: • Equipment for APU members – from basic (eg: sleeping bags) to high-tech (eg: GPS tracking units) • Skills training for APU teams (basic to advanced) • Aerial surveillance • Buffer community interventions More info: Sign up here!
