80 years of amazing Addo
28 July 2011
Established in 1931 and now covering some 180 000 hectares, Addo is the third largest park in South Africa. “The expansion of Addo Elephant National Park has resulted in an incredible diversity of wildlife species, landscapes and experiences that are available to visitors,” said park manager Norman Johnson in a statement posted on the Addo Elephant Park website.
NMBT’s marketing manager Titus Chuene said NMBT would like to “congratulate Addo Elephant National Park on reaching 80 years of conserving our valuable wildlife.”
The park has partnered with communities bordering the parks through the establishment of the Mayibuye Ndlovu Development Trust in 2005. The partnership ensures that communities within the park’s vicinity share in the profits generated by the park and also receive tangible benefits from the park.
