AQUELLE SERIES THIS SUNDAY
Port Elizabeth's unique aQuellé Ocean Racing SeriesTM gets underway this Sunday with the first of 10 race days taking place from Hobie Beach on mostly alternate Sundays between this weekend and the first weekend in April 2016.
Hundreds of people are expected to line up in the 6 events on offer each race day with the Series being ideally suited for local families and/or people wanting to stay active this Summer with some fun beach activity. Whether you prefer walking, running or swimming, the Series caters for all interests with a scenic 5km Beach Run, 5km Beach Walk and a 1km Beach Run/Walk for children under the age of 12 years old. The swimmers this year will be able to choose from one of 3 distances on offer each race day which includes a 1km, 2km and 3km ocean swim.
A special registration function takes place this Friday evening at News Cafe Boardwalk between 5.30pm and 8pm with live music and the opportunity for participants to collect their race packs and stand a chance of winning a top of the range Speedo wetsuit and an awesome accommodation & game drive voucher from Lion Roars.
Sundays races start at 9am with late registration available at Hobie Beach from 7.30am, Zsports Events NPC, a local non-profit sports company which created the Series in 2006, have managed to keep race day entry fees the same as the last 3 years despite outrageous beach hire fees of R1,900 per race morning. All events run simultaneously on race mornings making for an great spectacle and the morning concludes with the kids prize giving around 10am and the adult prize giving thereafter. Medals and an abundance of lucky draw prizes including R1,000 cash are up for grabs each race day.
