CHARITY WINS URBAN RUN

Top 2015 Philanthropist Lyndon Bagley receives his trophy watched by Cleary Estate Cheshire Home representative Hillary Bolton and Philanthropist runner-up Enrique Franks.

Thousands descended on the city centre this weekend to witness the Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency and SA's first Inner City Enduro. Starting and finishing from the Donkin Reserve, just under a thousand runners took part in this unique Urban Run which took participants on an 8.5km route through the historic CBD and included many of the rejuvenated sections of the city.

Along the route some 20 obstacles and 4 water stations were setup by local companies but this didn’t seem to slow down the overall race winners Siyolo Dick (37min 41secs) and Lindi-Mae Terblanche (52:06). However, as with every year, the real winners of the Urban Run charity event are the charities who represent those unable to enjoy such pleasures in life. The adults urban runners raised much needed funding for Cleary Estate Cheshire Home in the Northern areas, raising a whopping R107 883.

On Saturday just under 90 children took part in the managed to raise just under R10,000 for the Reach for a Dream Foundation with Lwambeso Magwada and Mikail Van Huyssteen winning the coveted Urban Run trophies.

The Nutritech slip and slide obstacle was voted by the participants as the best obstacle of the event whilst the Cleary Cheshire water table was voted as the best water table. The Herald best dressed competition was well contested this year with Gavin Strydom and Werner Badenhorst winning in their Ironman costumes which took several months to construct. Claiming R3,000 and the Herald trophy, the duo didn’t hesitate in donating all the prize month to the charity.

For the second year running, Lyndon Bagley, scooped up the Philanthropist prize for raising R5,520 for the charity whilst Matthew Ferreira raised the most amount in the Kids race and won for himself a bicycle from Cylopro.
