FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR YOUTH DAY AN EXPRESSION OF OUR UNITY IN DIVERSITY

Sixteen teams from around the Bay and including youth from the Logos Hope will compete on Youth Day (Soweto Day), Thursday 16th June. People from all different backgrounds and cultures come together through sports to show unity on the 40th year commemoration of Soweto Day.

A five a side football competition will start at 8:00am until 2:30pm at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Social volleyball and a tuck shop will also be available. As Logos Hope consists of volunteers from more than 55 different nationalities, there will be chances to meet people from around the world. It is an ideal time to bring the family and enjoy the event.

This multi-cultural football tournament is held by Logos Hope and Fusion Sports under the auspices of Switched On. “In a country and at a time when there is heightened political and racial tension, our desire is through the sports to demonstrate to the Bay and to the nation that unity and harmony is possible between people of different cultures and language groups,” said Rory Spence, chairman of Switched On.

Similar sports events will be held around the Bay in the Northern Areas and in the townships organized by the South African Sports Coalition (Sascol).

                                                                                                                                                                              MV Logos Hope, the largest floating book fair currently docking in Port Elizabeth, offers an expanded selection of over 5,000 different titles at affordable prices and culture events for all ages. All the crewmembers are volunteers. They are unique examples of unity in cultural diversity. Although they have different backgrounds, the crewmembers agree on a common goal: serving people through social service projects and good literature.

MV Logos Hope will open to the public at Multi-Purpose Terminal, Fleming Street Entrance, Port of Port Elizabeth from 9th June 2016 – 19th June 2016. Opening hours are as follows: Wed to Sat: 10am - 9:00pm; Sun, Mon, Tue: 2pm - 9:00pm;  There is an entrance fee of 5R per person; children under 12 years old enter for free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
