Fundraiser to turn Baakens into Valley of Dreams

An entrepreneur and restaurateur has shared his vision behind the first Valley of Dreams Music Festival fundraiser, putting it down to his deep love for the city, and a calling to help Nelson Mandela Bay find its way back to greatness.

The festival will be held in the Baakens Valley on Saturday November 30, where friends and families can listen to some top class musicians against the backdrop of the nature reserve.

Festivities kick off at 12 noon and include a jampacked programme featuring Just Jinjer, Rubber Duc and Jordan Arts. There will also be a superb mix of food and craft trucks, family-friendly picnic benches, and a children’s village with a play area.

Alabaster Street will be closed for the day, and festival goers can also choose to support Remo’s Italian and Richmond Hill Brewing Company.

Festival organiser Dante Cicognini said the event would serve as a fundraiser to maintain and improve the Baakens Valley.

“I have a deep love; one could almost call it a calling, to help this city find its way back to greatness.

“Through the Baakens Valley Business cluster we plan on running this event annually to raise funds to tackle many projects."

By securing the necessary funding and support, we believe we can transform Nelson Mandela Bay’s green lung into a safe, vibrant, and sustainable space that benefits the entire community,” he said.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Baakens Valley.

The funds will be managed by The Baakens Valley Business Cluster, formed under the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, to take ownership of the Baakens Valley and create sustainable solutions to maintain and improve the area.

Tickets cost between R150 and R250 via Webtickets.

To truly harness the potential of the valley as a whole, the Baakens Valley Business Cluster has compiled a comprehensive plan that addresses a number of urgent issues.

Their strategy involves cleanup initiatives, preventive measures, enhanced security, infrastructure improvements, community engagement, and in turn to promote tourism and businesses to ultimately create a legacy of environmental stewardship and economic opportunity.
