Jonker’s amazing adventure
05 September 2011
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism’s (NMBT) trade coordinator, Jonker Fourie, an avid blogger, recently hopped on the adventure trail and experienced the untamed beauty of the wild coast and the chaste interior of the Eastern Cape, in the Mini versus Maxi adventure – together with a journalist, an East London based blogger and two tourism officials from the Eastern Cape.
The Mini vs Maxi concept pits one team, driving a “small” VW Polo sedan against a 4x4 team in a VW Amarok. The idea was to show that one can explore and experience the Eastern Cape in any type of vehicle.
Over the four days, from August 25-28, the exploration teams blogged, ‘facebooked’ and ‘tweeted’ about their experience, highlighting the various travel features in the Adventure Province.
“Very few people realise how much the Eastern Cape has to offer, not just sights, adventures and attractions, but also diversity,” said Fourie. “The Mini vs Maxi trip gave me the opportunity to discover many wonderful places like the little hamlet of Morgan Bay in the southern part of the Wild Coast.”
For Fourie, blogging is a passion that grew out of his love for photography and travel. He explores much of South Africa, from the mundane beach picnic experience to high-adrenaline bungee jumping in the Tsitsikamma.
Fourie also experienced the amazing walk with elephants in the wild, stalking giraffe and rhino on foot through the veld and bush, quad biking in the wild, and cuddling cheetahs in the Inkwenkwezi Cheetah enclosure.
