Kouga Agri-tourism route launched
HANKEY – The Kouga Agri-Tourism Route was launched at Pabala Private Nature Reserve in the Gamtoos Valley on 16 September 2021. The board was founded earlier in 2021 and the main role players are all established agricultural sectors that are located within the Kouga Region with majority in the Gamtoos Valley in the Eastern Cape, a mere one hour drive from Port Elizabeth and Tsitsikamma, making it the perfect stop for day trips of both domestic and international travellers.
This new Tourism Route bring both sectors of Agriculture and Tourism together and allows both to reap the advantage of learn and explore – which fits perfectly with the Nelson Mandela Metro Tourism moto: #Yours2Explore The Kouga Agri-Tourism Route also includes Khoi Cultural Tours that allows visitors to experience the Khoi Culture directly from the Khoi that still live in traditional manner in the Gamtoos Valley area. This includes traditional khoi food tasting, dances, viewing of rock paintings, visits to an authentic Khoi “Kraal” and some fascinating facts and the history of Sara Baartman.
The new Kouga Agri-Tourism Route allows visitors a variety of activities that includes
- Honey Tasting and Bee Hive Visits at Pabala
- Pick Strawberries at Mooihoek
- Citrus Packhouse Tours at Entabeni Farms
- Khoi Cultural Tours
This Route is defined as a must for every visitor passing by between Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) and the Garden Route as it offers a wide variety of agricultural (and tourism) activities and to basically experience ‘a day in the life of a farmer’ with the fun aspect of being a tourist while doing so.
