PORT ELIZABETH’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS RACE

Port Elizabeth’s most popular racemeeting, the Betting World Algoa
Cup to be staged on Sunday October 25 at Fairview, will be off to an
energetic start this year as an early morning charity walk/run will
be held on the day at the racecourse. The racemeeting itself will as
usual be accompanied by a myriad of on course entertainment and fine
fare to suit all ages and tastes respectively.
The “End Polio Now Awareness Walk/Run” will start at 7h30 and is
being hosted by the Rotary Club in Port Elizabeth. All are welcome to
participate in this innovation.
The food vendors will set up early on the day in order that the
walkers/runners can be catered for.
The Algoa FM OB van will be on course, broadcasting live from
Fairview Racecourse.

There will be family seating for the race meeting close to the track,
with benches, tables and chairs. Waitrons will be providing service
to this area from the “Hear The Drums Bar.” Familes will also be able
to buy lunch and soft drinks from the food vendors that will be
stationed in this area.
The kids will be well catered for as usual. Their Play Zone will
include Blowgun Target Shooting, Face Painting, Jumping Castles, Pony
rides and much more.
Adults also have a lot of on course entertainment to look forward to
besides the nine horse races, which includes the Gr 3 R350,000
Betting World Algoa Cup over 2000m.
High up on the list of attractions this year is a Wildekrans Wine
Estate Potjiekos Competition, hosted by the Lions of St Croix. Thirty
to forty entrants are anticipated. A dedicated area in which to
prepare the tasty dishes will be provided for each entrant, but they
will need to bring their own equipment, including charcoal and
firelighters or gas cookers. Entrants may set up their own gazebos if
they wish. The entry fee of R250 goes to charity.

MC/Music will have a stage in front of the Grand Stand and there will
be live music throughout the day.
Lucky draws will also be announced in front of the Grandstand.
The Algoa Cup is Port Elizabeth’s most prestigious race and was won
three years ago by the subsequent J&B Met winner Hill Fifty Four.
Another top class field is expected this year.
