A new convention centre is to open in Port Elizabeth in Nelson Mandela Bay in December 2012 which will boost the area's chances of attracting larger conferences and events according to Nhlapo.
The Boardwalk Convention Centre will be able to cater for conferences, exhibitions, events and concerts and will feature 3,000 sqm of space multiple divisible into a 2,000sqm ballroom and four multiple-purpose meeting rooms.
Kimberley has historical significance due to it's diamond mining past and is launching MICE packages off the back of this.
Nhlapo told CMW: "We are pulling together the less well-known South African destinations and working with them to boost MICE tourism."
