SPUR IRONKIDS SPONSORED BY PRITT OPEN FOR ENTRIES

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (25 November 2016) - Entries for the world’s biggest children’s aquathlon, the 2017 Spur IRONKIDS sponsored by Pritt, are now open.  The popular children’s event takes place Saturday 1 April 2017 at McArthur’s Pool and Leisure Centre and a sell-out field is once again expected.

Now in its 11th year, the race is one of the most popular events on the Nelson Mandela Bay calendar and a real highlight of the IRONMAN weekend. The Spur IRONKIDS annually reaches capacity as only 1000 entries can be taken.

The event, for children between the ages of 6 – 13, features a 100 metre swim and 1.2km run starting at McArthur’s Pool and Leisure Centre finishing at Hobie Beach along the same red carpet and finish line where the IRONMAN athletes will cross the next day. No times are taken, with the emphasis being on participation and enjoying a healthy, active lifestyle.

The race received a boost with Spur announcing the renewal of their title sponsorship of the event for the next three years. In addition, Pritt has re-joined the Spur IRONKIDS family as a co-sponsor for the next three years.

Spur IRONKIDS has proven year-after-year to be a very successful and fun-filled event that allows children to get outside and get active. The 2017 event is looking to be even bigger and better with our Spur Mini Hero competition,” said Clare Rainey, Brand Development Manager, Spur Group.

The Spur Mini Hero competition is open to all 2017 Spur IRONKIDS entrants living in the Eastern Cape. Kids who have entered the Spur IRONKIDS 2017 are encouraged to share their stories of what hero they want to be when they grow up. The top 10 stories will be chosen, and each winner will receive a R500 Spur voucher and a free entry into the 2018 Spur IRONKIDS race. One overall winner will be chosen from the top 10 to hand over a R10 000 cheque to any one of the IRONMAN 4 the Kidz charities of their choice and be featured on TV.
